Clifton Mack obsessively paints the Jarman Island Lighthouse. Jarman Island Lighthouse is located near Cossack in Western Australia (WA) and is among the Pilbara region’s most significant historic landmarks. The lighthouse operated from 16 May 1888 until the light was extinguished on 15 May 1985. Now when the sun has set the earth around the lighthouse glows red.
It is an old historical site with the lighthouse as well as keepers quarters that were constructed by prisoners the majority of whom were from an Arabian pearling fleet, stranded up in Cossack during the cyclone season. When the tide was out, food and supplies would be sent from Cossack to the island by hand driven rail track. Today you can still see the tracks on the edge of the beach. Clifton often paints the seagulls footprints on the island.
